This vintage piece features a Baltic amber cabochon in a gorgeous deep whisky colour in a ring crafted in 9ct yellow gold. The amber cabochon garnet is held on extended claws, a splendid 8mm above the finger, a 2mm frame of lacy openwork detail surrounding the highly-polished gemstone. The amber has fascinating inclusions in the deep raw honey colouring. A slender yellow gold shank supports the 17mm long x 14mm wide ring head, a twisted rope detail bordering the amber. I found this piece at a vintage jeweller in the jewellery quarter of Birmingham, England; the ring weighs a solid 2,95 grams and has an excellent pedigree: the 375 hallmark indicating 9ct gold, the jeweller's signature, the date hallmark for 1976, and the Birmingham Assay mark. I have had the piece assessed and evaluated by an independent jeweller at R13'000 and a certificate to that effect will accompany the ring.
