This is a very unusual item. This was manufactured in the days when many inventors were developing their own batteries. One of these was a man named Hellesen, who lived in Denmark. This lamp was made to work with his batteries, which today are no longer available.
The item appears to be made of Brass, but it is slightly magnetic so I am not sure. The lamp has been sprayed black, but over the years quite a bit has been scratched off.
The picture of the base shows a hole, but I believe that the metal in the base is actually what is left of the battery itself. I have not tried to remove the base, The brass area around this base has not been damaged. In the battery area, there are signs of some acid leakage, but this can be removed with a bit of TLC.
I do not have the holder into which the bulb would have been screwed.
This is a real, scarce and interesting piece.
