Vintage Bircher Haglund Sterling Silver and Amethyst Brooch

The brooch is handcrafted in sterling silver. It features a plain rectangular panel, with a round, cabochon amethyst (circa 7.5mm diameter / 3ct) in a rub-over setting to the one side, and two giraffe cut-outs to the other side. The rear of the panel is mounted with a pin and clasp, and is stamped "HAGLUND, HAND MADE, STERLING SILVER, AFRICA SOUTH"

Bircher Haglund was born in Sveg, Sweden, in 1918. After his silversmith training, he lived in South Africa from 1948 to 1952, where he produced jewellery from his temporary workshop. He returned to Sweden, where he died many years later in 2006.
