Charming and full of character, this vintage cruet set features a pair of porcelain bird nodders one red, one blue flanking a small lidded mustard pot. The rectangular base is beautifully hand painted with an autumn tree scene, complete with a birds nest and two tiny eggs. Each bird gently nods when touched, making this set both functional and delightfully animated.
Stamped "PAT TK" on each shaker and the base, along with a curious "King's Way" mark likely a well-meaning but geographically confused attempt by the Japanese maker to give the set a bit of British flair. (The real King's Way made silverware, not porcelain, but clearly someone in post-war Japan thought the name sounded posh enough to borrow.) The result? A whimsical piece with a slightly mixed-up passport and a whole lot of charm. The gold trim on the mustard lid shows light wear, but the set is otherwise in excellent vintage condition. Spoon not included and possibly never was.
Measures approximately 12.5cm x 5cm x 9cm. An engaging addition to any vintage kitchenware collection, especially if you enjoy a touch of table-top theatre.
