VINTAGE BLACK ONYX AND MARCASITE STERLING
SILVER RING
 
A very special piece of vintage jewellery! The flat oval shaped natural black onyx piece has been set into a sterling silver ring, and is surrounded by round natural marcasites. The marcasite stones create a crescent shaped frame around the one side of the onyx piece, and allow for an interesting contrast against the black. The onyx is fairly large, and runs 24mm up the finger. The shank of the ring is simple and solid. The ring is sterling silver ( hallmarked 925 ). At 5,8 grams, it is quite a heavy piece of jewellery with a nice strong feel to it! I can't date it but the design and the use of the marcasite frame suggests it is quite an old piece.

Black Onyx is an excellent stone for releasing negative emotions, such as sorrow and grief, and therefore brings good fortune and helps in recognizing personal strength. Marcasite is said to promote intelligence and creativity, as well as block negative energy.
