VINTAGE BRASS FINISH METAL FIREPLACE TOOL SET WITH ROMAN SOLDIER PLUME HELMET DESIGN 64CM HIGH
VINTAGE WROUGHT IRON BRASS FINISH ROMAN SOLDIER PLUME HELMET THEME FIREPLACE TOOL SET WITH SHOVEL, BROOM, POKER, AND VERY LARGE 51CM LONG AND HEAVY TONGS. THE HANDLES AND ALL THE PARTS ARE MADE FROM WROUGHT IRON WITH A BRASS FINISH TO HANDLE AND STAND FINIALS. THIS FIREPLACE SET DATE FROM THE MID TWENTIETH CENTURY.
These are the tools commonly used to tend a small fire, such as an indoor fireplace fire which make it possible to handle a fire without risk of burns or blisters.
For much of the 18th and 19t centuries firepaces were an essential part of everybodies home. Up until the 1800s, people viewed fireplaces as purely functional and practical rather than something you could design to be aesthetically pleasing or an art piece within your home. But by the late 1800s everyone started to see them not only as a heating source but as one of a homes main aesthetic elements.
Around 1920, fireplaces stopped being the homes primary heating source due to the invention of central heating systems. Fireplaces were still functional, and many people still used them for heating their homes, but chimneys and fireplaces became more of an adding dimension of design to a home than being used for heat. By the 1960s a fireplace was rarely seen in the layout of new homes.
