This vintage cabin/steamer trunk still has its original "National Vulcanized Fibre Company" label to the front. From the 1920’s, until this British company changed hands in the 1960’s, The National Vulcanized Fibre Company was the foremost manufacturer of cabin trunks. As can be seen on the picture of the label with the stamp onit, this trunk was used on a railway journey as recently as 1965 – Please zoom in the pictures. It would have had a tray to the inside, which got lost somewhere along the way. The lock is no longer in situ. For some years, I stored it in my garden shed, where it sustained damage to the underside, and bottom of the inside. Please study the pictures carefully. Both the original handles are in place, but the leather covering of one needs gluing back onto the elastic underneath. These trunks became wildly popular again in the early 1980’s, when the Yuppies were buying them to use as coffee tables; or converting them as cocktail cabinets. With a bit of TLC, this trunk could be restored and converted into a useful object, or storage facility. Dimension: 92cm x 52cm x 32 cm. I have the details of a fairly inexpensive courier service that delivers COD. Please ask if you need their details. If I have to arrange the delivery - to anywhere in SA - please add R200.
