FROM MY CUPBOARDS

51 piece VINTAGE CANTEEN OF CUTLERY - B J SIPPEL LTD, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND

- 6 place setting

This canteen belonged to my 90 year old Aunt and was a set she had from her wedding year, or soon after she was married anyway ( +- 1945 ) and to which she added (see other auction for a box of knives, hardly if at all, used, that was bought to complement this set, as well as another auction for additional cutlery that was added to this set as well) She was a great entertainer and obviously needed more than the 6 place setting in the canteen. The handles on the Knives have mellowed in patina over the years and are this incredible salmony colour. I do not know whether they are bone or not. The canteen is in a light Oak (I think), it opens at the sides and is lined in a pink satin with black velvet accents.

Also has a knife sharpener which is still in it's paper and has a marking "forged steel - Sheffield England' looks like it was never used to sharpen a knife.

Canteen: Length 45cm, width 28cm, height 8cm

Condition: Excellent - but please note. I think some of the original utensils from the canteen have been replaced with the additional purchases over the years because they are just a touch smaller, hardly noticible, but mentioning for accuracy sake, and quite honestly I don't know which ones are the original and which are not, but this is how I got it. There is a little wear to some of the utensils too, mostly the large serving spoons and the soup spoons at the back of the bowls. I think the carving knife is missing and there are 2 empty slots? There are some scratches to the case, difficult to see because it is light. But overall still fabulous for age = 65 years or so
