AN VINTAGE CHAIN MAIL MESH CHATELAIINE COIN PURSE. MANY OF THESE COIN PURSES WERE HANDMADE DURING VICTORIAN TIMES INTO THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY IN ENGLAND.
IT HAS A GILT METAL OVAL SHAPED BODY (NON MAGNETIC POSSIBLY SILVERPLATED OR EVEN STERLING AS MANY OF THEM WERE) WITH AN EXPANDABLE ACCORDION OPENING.
IT HAS A HINGED CAP INCISED & ENGRAVED WITH LEAFY SCROLL & FLOWER DECORATION. MOUNTED ON EITHER SIDE IS TWO SMALL ROUND METAL RINGS FOR ATTACHMENT.
METAL MESH PURSES WERE POPULAR DURING THE LAST PART OF THE 19TH CENTURY AND THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY. MOST WERE MADE OF BRASS OR SILVER PLATED, BUT SOME WERE MUCH MORE PRECIOUS AND MADE OUT OF STERLING SILVER AND EVEN GOLD.
