This vintage piece is handcrafted in 18ct yellow gold. This type of ring - 'Chester' design set specifically with rubies and diamonds - was a popular love ring soldiers would give their sweethearts before leaving for War. Rubies for love, diamonds for eternity... Unfortunately the date hallmark has worn off, but an independent jeweller dates it back to around World War 1 when this love token ring was popular. It may be later? The ring head features 3 x rubies in a gorgeous pinkish red colour, and flanking the largest, central oval-cut ruby are 2 x round-cut diamonds, and on either side of those are a round cut ruby. All the gemstones sit flush with the gold, and the sides are built up 18k gold, softly scalloped to follow the shape of the gemstones. The shank is narrow, bearing the hallmark 18K indicating 18ct gold and the royal crown for vintage British gold. The assay mark has worn away. The gold is in very good vintage condition - no chips, no noticeable marks, just gentle buff marks. The ring head measures 13mm across x 6mm wide x 2mm high and weighs 2,16 grams, and please note the ring side is particularly small - 4 1/2 ('I 1/2' in SA or British sizing). A very cute and rather special little English vintage collectable.
