On offer is a lovely and rare vintage Gubelin automatic winding mechanical timepiece in working condition. Please note: Comes as head only.
This particular example is dated to around 1959 from the movement serial number. It is presented in a stainless steel case, with an original dial and movement. Its authenticity is confirmed by the case, dial, and movement, all of which are marked with the Gubelin name. The base Eterna (cal. 1428u) 21-jewel automatic movement was commissioned and then upgraded to Gubelin's high standards (adjusted to 2 positions and Gubelin- marked dial)
This is a unique opportunity to own a mid-20th-century timepiece from the famous Swiss house of Gubelin!
Dimensions: case width (excluding crown): 32 mm, lug width: 17 mm, lug to lug: 39 mm.
Dial and Hands:
The original white dial has aged to an even patina. The patina is most prominent around the edges between the hour markers, with some marks near the centre. I suspect it is due to loss from the original radium lume. The dial is marked with "Gubelin" (letters E and N faded) and "Swiss" at 6 o'clock. There are silver applied hour markers with matching silver hour, minute and second hands.
Case ,Crown and Crystal :
The stainless steel case is unpolished (retains its edges), although it shows some age-related wear. The steel crown is unmarked. The crystal has a few scratches.
Movement :
Base caliber Eterna 1428u automatic winding with 21 jewels - commissioned and upgraded by Gubelin.
The crown rotates but is a bit stiff. The movement is running, although it has not been tested for time accuracy and its service history is unknown. A service is recommended
