Vintage 'Damascene Marquetry' Wooden Tray 

This wonderful, hand-made, vintage, mosaic inlaid wooden tray has been beautifully decorated in various geometric patterns. It's octangular in shape with a lovely high border, which is also beautifully decorated on both sides, as well as on the top edge. This impressive craft known as Damascene marquetry or wood mosaic is from Damascus in Syria and involves thousands of tiny pieces of different woods and many hours of work by expert mosaic craftsman. Other than some fading to one section of the tray, and a small piece of wood missing on one of the edges, it's in great condition. It measures 42cm x 42cm, with a height of 4cm and weighs 960g.
