VINTAGE DARK BLUE SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND RING.

This combination of sapphire and diamonds in a cluster design is one of those classic timeless designs that always holds its glamour! This lovely ring features a single brilliant cut 4 x 5 mm oval cut blue sapphire in the centre, which is surrounded by 12 x 1mm round cut natural diamonds and an additional diamond on each shoulder. The diamonds are claw-set in 9 carat white gold. The sapphire is a little unusual. It has a distinct naturalness to it, more opaque than a lot of finely faceted stones. The colour is good - a striking deep blue - and when held to the light, there is an unusual inclusion set of parallel inclusions. The ring setting presents the head 5 mm above the finger.
The ring bears the hallmarks 9K for the gold, DIA for authenticated diamonds and the jeweller signature. There are also the marks for British origin, including the assay office (see photograph).
