This authentic, premium vintage 6-sided doctoral Tudor bonnet was custom-tailored by the historic South African academic outfitters Davis Stephens & Co. (Burg Street, Cape Town).
The traditional 6-corner hexagonal crown style perfectly meets the strict, official academic regalia guidelines required for PhD, LLD, and higher doctoral graduates across South African institutionsincluding UCT, Stellenbosch, UNISA, WITS, UP, and UJ.

* Fabric: Premium deep black velvet outer body with standard internal lining cloth
* Trimmings: Thick, tightly twisted gold metallic honour cord with an intact gold bullion tassel
Made in Cape Town, 1970s-1980s.
Condition:
Exterior: Excellent vintage condition. The black velvet has been meticulously preserved with no balding, thinning, or flat crushing. The structure holds its original shape perfectly.
Interior: Good vintage condition. The interior fabric sweatband shows minor age-related fraying and light cosmetic wear along the inner rim edge (clearly documented in the photos). This is strictly internal and does not affect the external look or wearability of the hat.
