Vintage Hardware, yet Truly Powerful for Windows 95's Needs
This Dell Dimension 4100 guarantees the snappiest Windows 95 experience you can have "on metal" (meaning, using actual hardware), as the computer originally ran Windows Millennium Edition (4 years newer than 95) with ease, with the following specifications:
- CPU: Intel Pentium III, 933 MHz, single-core 32-bit processor with SSE instruction set
- RAM: 128 MB DDR133 (DDR1)
- Graphics: NVIDIA Riva TNT2 Model 64, 32 MB dedicated video memory, PCI DirectX 8.0, VGA video output
- Audio: Creative SoundBlaster 64V CT5807 (https://theretroweb.com/expansioncards/s/creative-sound-blaster-64v-dell-oem-ct5807)
- Hard disk drive: Seagate 20 GB (ST320410A) with rubberised noise-reducing cover
- A CD-ROM drive (very slow, compatible only with CD-R), and a DVD-ROM drive (compatible with DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW, but not DVD-RW)
- A 3.5" floppy disk drive (FDD)
Please note that although the computer does come with 2x USB ports at the back, Windows 95 simply refuses to detect anything you plug into those. However, those ports both work perfectly well: I know that for sure since during my testing, I booted into Tiny Core Linux via CD, within which I could see and access all USB drives I plugged in those ports.
