The Jembe on offer in freshly refurbished with  new Kudu skin drumhead.

The djembe drum is said to have been invented in the 12th Century by the Mandinke tribe in what is now Mali, in West Africa.  

the origin of the djembe is associated with a class of Mandinka blacksmiths known as Numu

In the Bambara language, djé is the verb for gather and bé translates as peace. The Djembe drum symbolizes unity and community.

There are three different types of djembe drum: 
1) in which the base ends in a swallow's tail and the drum shell is round and vertical, 
2) in which the base ends in a swallow's tail and the drum shell is funnel-shaped with a large diameter, and 
3) in which the base is cylindrical and fairly narrow

The unit on offer is of type 2) with an 8" drumhead and a 9" conical shaped tail, projecting the sound vey well.
