Title: Vintage Dunlop Maxply Fort Wooden Tennis Racquet with Frame Press. Manufactured By: Dunlop, Made In England. Width: 23 cm. Length: 68.5 cm. Info: Dunlop Maxply Fort wood tennis racquet. The gut has 1 x broken string. The frame press has the previous owners name on the frame.
An old 1970's racquet that has seen some use but it is still a great addition to the tennis club decoration or in the bar / study area. The decals are visible on one side only. The grip is in fair condition. No curvature on the racquet head. John McEnroe signed for Dunlop and beat Bjorn Borg in the Wimbledon final with the Dunlop Maxply Fort racket. More tennis Grand Slams have been won with Dunlop rackets than any other brand. Made from a mix of nine different woods, the Maxply Fort proved to be one of the most popular racquets ever. Debuting in 1931, the racquet was used by a range of pros including Rod Laver, who was said to customize his Dunlops to reach the exact head weight he sought. The Dunlop Maxply Fort had a staying power that led a generation of wood-racquet users.
Condition: Fair, for a racquet of this age that has been used, the press frame can be cleaned up and when varnished etc will make great piece of sporting memorabilia.
