Vintage enameled Metal Spoons

Set of 3 Vintage enameled metal spoons.  Commonly referred to as enamelware or spice/measuring spoons, featuring pastel-colored handles with visible chipping and rust.

The concept of fusing vitreous enamel (Powdered glass) onto a metal substrate originally took root in Germany during the 1760's. Early manufacturers experimented with glass coatings on heavy ironworks to create a safer, more hygienic barrier. This process successfully prevented the transfer of metallic tastes and rust into food. By 1835, the technique evolved to allow the mass production of enamel cookware and sinks across Germany and Austria.
