  VINTAGE ENGLISH SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND CLUSTER 9CT
YELLOW GOLD RING. UNUSUAL ELLIPTICAL DESIGN

This vintage piece of English jewellery features a trio of deep blue round faceted sapphires claw set in 9ct yellow gold. A larger central sapphire is flanked on either side by 2 smaller sapphires, and all the claws are quite thick and elongated, forming an additional deep yellow border design element. The sapphires create a tiered effect with the central sapphire held 5mm above the finger, the smaller sapphires on a second tier and the third tier is border of 18 sparkling round faceted diamonds. The strong colour contrast between the midnight blue of the sapphire against the icy sparkle of the diamonds and the warm yellow gold is quite striking! The sapphires are a very beautiful dark colour, depending on the light ranging from almost black to royal blue. The ring is delicate rather than large and hefty - but at 13mm wide x 9mm long and weighing in at 2.64 grams, it is big enough to be seen and enjoyed. The slender 9ct yellow gold shank supports the coronet of claws that hold the gemstones. The pedigree of the piece is evident in its' many hallmarks: the jeweller's signature, the London assay mark, the hallmark '375' for 9ct gold as well as the date mark for 1990. The piece has some light buff marks in keeping with its age and is otherwise in very good condition. A classic English design.
