Vintage Feathers Gallery original, Knysna, Loerie, hand crafted collectors edition

The Knysna turaco (Tauraco corythaix ), or as Is called in South Africa the Knysna Loerie is a large green bird with a short hooked bill and brilliant red wings. The bill is short, deep and sharply curved and is orange-red. The eye is brown and the eye-ring deep red. There is a white line just under the eye, which extends behind the eye. It has a long and heavy tail, which is mostly green - the wing coverts are a darker metallic green. It has a tall green crest, which is tipped distinctly with white. Males and females are very similar and difficult to tell apart but for the female being a little smaller with duller coloured feathers. Size 18cm x 5cm x 14cm
