FRANCOIS HUBERT DROUAIS (1727-1775)
François-Hubert Drouais was a leading French portrait painter during the latter years of Louis XV's reign. () His clientele included the French royal family and nobility, foreign aristocracy, fermiers-généraux, and the wealthier members of Parisian society and their favourites. Drouais portrayed most of the leading figures of his age, including the king and his two most famous mistresses, Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry, as well as artists and leading members of the professional classes.
Drouais was born in Paris, the son of the painter Hubert Drouais (1699 - 1767), who was famous for his miniature portraits. Drouais was trained by his father and by other well-known painters. Drouais was celebrated for his likenesses of aristocrats dressed in rustic costume, a current fashion, and for his representations of children, often in landscape settings.

MADAME DU BARRY (1743-1793):

Jeanne Becu or countess du Barry was born August 19, 1743, Vaucouleurs, Francedied December 8, 1793, Paris) was the last of the mistresses of the French king Louis XV (reigned 171574). Although she exercised little political influence at the French court, her unpopularity contributed to the decline of the crown in the early 1770s.
She was born Marie-Jeanne Bécu, theillegitimate  daughter of lower-class parents. After a convent education, she was a shop assistant, under the name Jeanne Vaubernier, in a fashion house in Paris. While there she became the mistress of Jean du Barry, a Gascon nobleman who had made a fortune as a war contractor. He introduced her into Parisian high society, and her beauty captivated a succession of nobly born lovers before she attracted Louis XVs attention in 1768. She could not qualify as official royal mistress (maîtresse en titre), a position vacant since the death of Madame de Pompadour in 1764, unless she was married to a noble. Hence, du Barry arranged a nominal marriage between Jeanne and his brother, Guillaume du Barry; in April 1769 she joined Louis XVs court.
On the death of Louis XV (May 1774) and the accession of Louis XVI, Madame du Barry was banished to a nunnery but from 1776 until the outbreak of the Revolution she lived on her estates with the Duke de Brissac. In 1792 she made several trips to London probably to give financial aid to French émigrés. She was condemned as a counterrevolutionary by the Revolutionary Tribunal of Paris and in December 1793, she was guillotined.

MARIE ANTOINETTE (1755-1793):
Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France prior to the French Revolution. She was born an archduchess of Austria, and was the penultimate child and youngest daughter of Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Francis I.  She arrived at the French Court aged only fifteen. From the time of her marriage to the Dauphin Louis, heir to the throne, she found it difficult to adapt to French customs and when she became Queen, she committed more and more blunders, often unwittingly, which gradually alienated public opinion, helping to tarnish her image in a most disastrous way.
Marie Antoinettes ambiguous attitude at the outbreak of the French Revolution she seemed uncertain whether to run away or seek reconciliation accelerated her tragic demise. She was imprisoned in the Temple on 10 August 1792, then moved to the Conciergerie shortly after the execution of the King in 1793. She demonstrated great courage during her trial before the Revolutionary Tribunal and at her execution on 16 October 1793 on what is now the Place de la Concorde.
Louis XVI (1754-1793) was the last king of France before the fall of the monarchy during the French Revolution. The son of Louis, Dauphin of France, and Maria Josepha of Saxony, Louis became the new Dauphin when his father died in 1765.
