AN INTERESTING VINTAGE FRAMED SEPIA PRINT DEPICTING TWO SISTERS THE DAUGHTERS OF SIR THOMAS FRANKLAND BART. AMELIA (1777-1800) AND MARIANNE (1778-1795), ON THE LEFT. BOTH WERE UNMARRIED AND DIED OF CONSUMPTION. AFTER THE ORIGINAL 1795 PAINTING BY JOHN HOPPNER (1758-1810) WHO PAINTED MANY OF THE FRENCH ROYALTY AND NOBILITY AND OTHER LEADING FIGURES OF HIS AGE. BEAUTIFULLY FRAMED AND IN GOOD CONDITION.
THE DAUGHTERS OF SIR THOMAS FRANKLAND (THE SISTERS) Based on John Hoppners oil painting of 1795 (now in the National Gallery of Art, Washington), it depicts the sisters Marianne and Amelia Frankland. Amelia looks out at the spectator; her right hand balances a portfolio of sketches on her lap and in her left hand she holds a crayon. Marianne gazes soulfully to the left, tenderly resting her arm on her sisters shoulder. At their feet a faithful spaniel lies sleeping a symbol of the sisters natural affection and love, and of their sympathy with nature.

JOHN HOPPNER (1758-1810) Hoppner was an English portrait painter. His earliest love was for landscape, but necessity obliged him to turn to the more lucrative business of portrait painting. At once successful, he had throughout life the most fashionable and wealthy sitters. The Prince of Wales visited him especially often, and many of his finest portraits were hung in the state apartments at St Jamess Palace, notably those of the prince himself, the Duke and Duchess of York, Lord Rodney and Lord Nelson.
