This is a vintage Gillette Flare Tip Superspeed safety razor. The razor was made by GIllette in the USA. The date code is Y4 (Fourth Quarter of 1953). The razor is in excellent working confition. The twist to open mechanism works perfectly and the blade reveal is straight and even. The chrome finish has a few scuff marks on the guard doors, and there is a bit of plate loss under the base plate (near the logos). I would rate the condition of the razor as 6.5 / 10 .  The entire razor has been cleaned, oiled, and polished and buffed.  It is ready to shave  - just slot in a blade :) 

This is a classic piece of shaving history, and it's safe to say that they don't make them like this anymore.
