Vintage Hand Built Studio Pottery Vase Pair | Green Drip Glaze

A distinctive pair of hand-built studio pottery vases made from terracotta clay, comprising a small rounded vase and a taller cylindrical vessel. Both pieces display richly layered applied glazing in warm terracotta, ochre, light green and dark green tones, with the glaze flowing and pooling across the surfaces to create irregular vertical runs and variations in colour. The deliberately organic finish and individual character of the two forms are particularly effective as a coordinated decorative pair.

The vases appear to have been constructed using coil-building techniques, with subtle horizontal coil lines still visible on the interior surfaces where the clay has not been completely smoothed. The exteriors have been carefully refined, while the varied glaze application has been allowed to retain its natural movement and texture. Neither piece is signed or marked, so the maker and studio are unknown. Although both forms could potentially be used as functional vessels, their sculptural shapes, hand-built construction and expressive glazing make them equally suited to decorative display.

The smaller vase measures approximately 5.8 cm in diameter at its widest point and stands approximately 9 cm tall. The taller tubular vase measures approximately 6.7 cm in diameter and stands approximately 14 cm tall. Both pieces are in very good vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or glaze crazing noted. The pair remains structurally sound, with the original hand-built surfaces and distinctive glaze work well preserved.
