HANDCRAFTED VINTAGE SMOKY QUARTZ 9CT YELLOW GOLD RING. UNUSUAL RAISED DESIGN, TWISTED DETAIL. 375

This unusual vintage piece features a large oval faceted smoky quartz claw set in 9ct yellow gold. The magnificent gemstone is accentuated by a halo of twisted yellow gold wire that is suspended with a gap of openwork around the base of the stone. The shank is flat and slender but not thin with an unusual extended 'kink' that extends the ring head in an unusual raised design above the finger (please see photograph!). Where the band reaches the shoulders, it flares outwards again, to support the 11mm wide x 17mm long ring head a splendid 11mm above the finger! The beautiful piece weighs a hefty 3.47 grams and sits  snugly and comfortably on the finger. I found this piece among the rings of a favourite vintage jeweller in Birmingham, England. However, there are no hallmarks, possibly as it is a handcrafted piece of jewellery.
