The Van Riebeeck coffee replica promotional items a series of 12 replica coins included in tins of Van Riebeeck instant coffee were originally issued in conjunction with the 1952 Van Riebeeck Festival in Cape Town. This festival marked the tercentenary (300-year anniversary) of Jan van Riebeecks landing at the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, and the replicas were included as a promotional giveaway with coffee tins to commemorate South African colonial history.
