Vintage Japanese 1950s Musical Jewellery Box Hand-painted on Black Lacquer with Abalone Inlay
This vintage black lacquered Japanese jewellery box features a beautiful painting of Mr. Fuji on its lid and intricate inlaid abalone shell. On the inside of the box there are more paintings on the lids of the inner compartments. There is a keyhole, however the key is missing. The top section has two lids with purple braided cord that opens to reveal two small divided storage compartments. The lower sections has two compartments, one small and one big, as well as a covered compartment that houses the music box. When wound up it plays, what appears to be, traditional Japanese music. It is marked Made in Japan on the base.
The box is in a very good vintage condition with a little wear to the lacquer in places, to be expected from an object of this age and that must have been loved and used.. All hinges work perfectly.
This lovely music box measures approximately 24 cm X 10.5 cm X 17 cm.
