Indian Tree is a highly recognizable and collectible dinnerware pattern inspired by 19th-century Chinese and Indian motifs. While many manufacturers produced "Indian Tree" designs, the Johnson Brothers version is prized for its durability and colorful, hand-decorated transfer designs.

Pattern History and Design
The Indian Tree design originated with the Coalport Company in 1801, but Johnson Brothers became one of its most famous producers. 

    Visual Elements: Features an intricate, stylized gnarled tree with colorful blossoms (often pink, green, and blue) on a creamy off-white glaze.
    Key Identification: Many pieces include a Greek key border pattern around the rim.
    Production Periods: While variations existed earlier, a major production run occurred between 1979 and 1982. Some sources also note mid-century versions from the 1920s and 1950s.
    Durability: Unlike porcelain versions from other brands, Johnson Brothers pieces are typically stoneware or ironstone, making them safe for microwave use and careful dishwasher cleaning due to the lack of gilt (gold).
