Title: Vintage Johnson Brothers "Old English" Pink Rose Porcelain Gravy Boat BY Stamp. Manufactured By: Johnson Bros, Made In England, circa late 1940's. Height: 9.0cm. Width: 20.0cm. Depth: 10.0cm. Info: Classic old English Style Gravy Boat from Johnson Bros, with an English Rose Pattern and hand painted blue trim, with a floral pattern on the handle. A scalloped style edge completes the vintage look of the gravy boat. The Gravy Boat has a "BY" stamp on the base. During and post-Second World War, the British government introduced regulations regarding the prices that could be charged for decorated pottery. Manufacturers were obliged to add a letter or letters to their backstamps to indicate the regulation group in which they had been placed. For Johnson it was the single letter B from 1942-45 and BY from 1945-52. Johnson Brothers (Grandsons of the great Meakin Family) was a British tableware manufacturer and exporter that was noted for its early introduction of "semi-porcelain" tableware. It was among the most successful Staffordshire potteries which produced tableware, much of it exported to the United States, from the 1890s through the 1960s. Founded in 1883, from 1968 to 2015 it operated as a part of the Wedgwood Group. However, after the Wedgwood Group was acquired by Fiskars in 2015, the production of Johnson Brothers was discontinued. Condition: Very Good, no chips, cracks or crazing on the gravy boat, the pattern and trim is in very good condition. Price: R 245.00 Inc Vat.
