Large 1950s Signed South African Studio Pottery Vase
A substantial and beautifully crafted studio pottery vase by Joy Theeson, signed and dated 22 May 1954, East London.
This impressive mid century piece features raised figural relief decoration encircling the body, depicting stylised figures in movement. The soft blush pink glaze has a gentle tonal variation that enhances the sculptural detail and gives the vase warmth and character.
The shape is classic 1950s studio form with a rounded body, pedestal foot and narrow neck. It is a heavy, solid piece with strong display presence.
