THEIR MASKS REPRESENT BENEVOLENT FOREST SPIRITS AND ARE USUALLY COVERED IN WHITE KAOLIN, A SUBSTANCE ASSOCIATED WITH LIGHT AND CLARITY THE TWO ESSENTIAL FACTORS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST EVIL.  THIS MASK IS KNOWN AS 'EKUK' WHICH MEANS BOTH 'PROTECTIVE FOREST SPIRIT' AND 'CHILDREN OF BEETE' (BEETE BEING A RITUAL USED TO COMBAT EVIL).
