LARGE OPAL & GARNET CLUSTER 9ct GOLD RING.

This is a rather special opal and garnet cluster ring set in 9ct yellow gold. This vintage gold ring has a central oval cabochon "precious white" opal that displays wonderful iridescent colour play. The opal is surrounded by garnet gemstones prong set in a flower mount of 9k gold. The garnets have a wonderful deep cognac red colour, which contrast with the polished yellow gold beautifully. Unusually, the head is oval, stretching right across the finger. The shoulders have an elegant leaf shape decoration connecting beautifully to the ring head, which sits 5mm high above the finger. Its a beautiful quality vintage piece in really good condition!
This ring bears the hallmarks '375' for 9ct gold, the Birmingham Assay office and a rather special jeweller signature in the form of C.L & S - a distinguished jeweller Charles Lyster & Son. I was thrilled to find this ring as it has true vintage heritage. The date mark is a little tricky as it is fairly worn but it appears to be 1921. That also tallies with the C.L & S who operated out of the Birmingham jewellery quarter from ca 1890 to the early 1920's.
