A genuine London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) parcel stamp featuring the bold red 8d (eight pence) pre-decimal fare. Issued from Kettering, this stamp is an attractive example of mid-20th-century British freight documentation.
Although LMS officially operated from 1923 to 1947, many LMS-style parcel stamps continued to be used into the early British Railways era as old stock was worked through. The purple date stamp MAR 1953 confirms this as a later use of original LMS-printed materialmaking it an interesting transitional piece.
