Vintage Loewe & Co. RJ London Made Estate Pipe.

A vintage, quality estate pipe in the half bent pot shape by renowned pipe makers Loewe & Co.  Stamped "L&Co, London Made" and "London, England, RJ" to the shank. Has a removeable "stinger", which is a condensing element of metal placed in the airway. Hot tobacco smoke passes through it, and the cooler condenser is supposed to draw (condense) the moisture on to it, and filter some heavier floating particulates from the air stream.  The pipe is in overall good vintage condition.  Cleaned and sanitized.  Kindly view images above for more detail.

The Frenchman Emil Loewe founded the company, both shop and workshop, in 1856 at the Haymarket 62, London. He is said to have been the first to make briar pipes in England. Theatre people from the West End were among the shop's heyday aficionados. Loewe's spigots are especially well regarded by lovers of elegance today - they were originally introduced for practical reasons, to facilitate the production of replacement stems for customers abroad.

I have on auction a large estate lifelong collection of quality tobacco smoking pipes dating from the 1950's to 1980's.  Apart from 3 or 4 of them (faults mentioned specifically) the condition is good to very good.  The collection has clearly been well-maintained and lovingly cared for.
