Description: Vintage Midwinter Stylecraft "Fashion Shape" Egg Cup Service Set.
A matching mid-century ceramic breakfast set consisting of a square earthenware base platter with a metal loop carrying handle and four coordinating egg cups, all decorated with muted green and gray leaf boughs and white floral graphics over a cream glaze.
This would be magnificent when used to serve soft-boiled eggs alongside artisanal sourdough toast points during a curated Sunday brunch.
Original Intended Use: Elegant formal tableside presentation of soft-boiled eggs during morning tea service.
Alternate Suggested Use: A highly curated mid-century kitchen display piece or a unique individual serving set for specialty dessert truffles and sauces.
Made in England, 1961, making this breakfast set 65+ years.
Designed by legendary ceramic pioneer Roy Midwinter, the "Fashion Shape" line debuted in the 1950s to radically redefine traditional rigid British pottery into fluid, organic modern tableware. The rare "Whispering" pattern beautifully captures the restrained, minimalist botanical illustrative aesthetic that dominated high-end European design houses throughout the early 1960s. The specialized "9-61" backstamp acts as a precise chronological archive marker, identifying the exact factory kiln run down to September 1961, making this an authenticated, prime-era addition for serious Staffordshire collectors.
Approximate Dimensions: Height 15.5 cm (including handle), Platter Width 15.5 cm, Egg Cup Height 4.5 cm.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition showcasing superb structural form and design clarity.
Visible Flaws: Minor age-related wear. Detailed macro inspection reveals an authentic network of uniform, tight glaze crazing spidering naturally across the base platter underside, typical for 1960s English semi-porcelain bodies. The unglazed bottom rim shows standard, minor shelf dust lines, and the structural black plastic washer beneath the central metal chrome handle exhibits faint surface dryness and natural age-related discoloration.
