A three-piece serving set from the Noritake Progression "Pacific" range (Pattern 9010). This mid-century modern design features a crisp white ceramic body decorated with a dark blue linear panel motif.

Set Includes:

• 1 x Creamer / Milk Jug.

Condition:

Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or visible crazing. The backstamp is clear on all pieces: "Noritake Progression China, Japan, Pacific 9010." Note: I have a separate listing available featuring the matching cups and saucers from this same range.

The Shift in Quality: From Porcelain to Progression

For the first half of the 20th century, Noritake was famous for fine, hand-painted porcelain that was beautiful but fragile. After World War II, as lifestyle habits changed and modern appliances like dishwashers and microwaves became household standards, the demand for delicate china dropped.

In 1966, Noritake launched the Progression range (including the Pacific 9010 pattern) to solve this. It wasn't just a new design; it was a new material science:

• Heat Resistance: Unlike traditional bone china, which can crack under sudden temperature changes, Progression was engineered to be "Oven-to-Table." It was designed to go from a hot oven or microwave directly to the dinner table without shattering.
• Durability: The body of the ceramic was toughened to resist chipping and "crazing" (those tiny spider-web cracks that often appear in older pottery).
• Modern Convenience: This was one of the first major vintage lines specifically marketed as dishwasher-safe. The glazes were fired at higher temperatures to ensure the patterns wouldn't fade or "wash off" in harsh detergents.
