VINTAGE OPAL SOLITAIRE CABOCHON 9CT YELLOW GOLD RING WITH PINK SAPPHIRE ACCENTS - INCREDIBLE LUSTRE!

This 3.2 gram vintage English piece features a splendid opal cabochon solitaire set into 9ct yellow gold. It is quite a big opal and has wonderful deep rainbow iridescence that proved difficult to capture on camera. However, the shot above using artificial light caught the rainbow!  Adding an unusual twist, the jeweller has set two small round pink sapphires into the ring head, one on either side of the opal. The gemstones are all claw set in 9ct yellow gold; the opal on long, extended claws that hold the cabochon a splendid 7mm above the finger. The narrow 9ct yellow gold shank thickens on the shoulders, forking horizontally to support the the cage created by the elongated claws. The openwork adds interesting design detail to the piece. The ring head measures 9mm long x 10mm wide. The pedigree of the piece is evident in the many hallmarks: the jeweller's signature, the date - 2007, the Birmingham Assay mark and the 375 hallmark for 9ct gold. It is quite a solid piece when you handle it and lovely for its classic vintage simplicity.
