ELABORATE VINTAGE OPAL TRILOGY RING IN 9CT YELLOW GOLD. BRITISH GOLD, WELL HALLMARKED.

An ornate piece, this ring features 3 oval cut opal cabochons, bezel set in 9ct yellow gold - the largest in the centre, flanked on either side by 2 slightly smaller opals. What is particularly striking in this piece is the ornate detailing around the opals themselves as well as around the edge of the ring head. The slender gold shank has detailing on the shoulders where an horizontal bar is followed by a split in the shank, exposing an openwork 'V' which is framed on the outside by a notched gold border that curves around the ring head, following the scalloping that describes the shape of the three gemstones. The design is mirrored as a cuff around the bezel holding each opal. All in all, a richly decorative finish on the ring, accentuated by the iridescence of the fire opals. Really difficult to show on camera but the last photograph was taken under artificial light to show up the iridescence. The ring head is 17mm wide x 12mm long and sits 3mm above the finger. At 3,08 grams the solid piece is heavy. The pedigree of the piece is evident in the hallmarks; the jeweller's signature, the 375 hallmark indicating 9ct yellow gold and the year 1979. A gleaming, lustrous piece, gorgeous on the hand.
