Vintage Pietermaritzburg 'M.D.F.A.' Soccer Medal (1928)

 

This early, 1920's, copper soccer medal has nice detail in relief and is in excellent condition. On the front it has the pre1930 Pietermaritzburg Coat of Arms with the motto 'UMGUNGUNHLOVU' which means 'the place of the elephant'. Above that 'M.D.F.A.' (Midlands District Football Association) and at the bottom 'FIVE A SIDE'. The back is engraved '1928, Schools 13, Runners Up, Boys Model School' and to whom it was awarded 'R. McWilliam'. It measures 37mm x 25mm and weighs 7,2g.
