Vintage Rosenthal porcelain " Paper Bag " vase by Finnish master designer Tapio Wirkkala 1977

Offered for sale is a highly collectible and iconic ceramic/porcelain  vase designed by the Finnish master designer Tapio Wirkkala for Rosenthal Studio Line . This item is referred to as a Tutenvase ie Paper Bag vase and is one  of a series of four vases of different sizes designed by Wirkkala for Rosenthal ; the designs realistically emulate paper bags. The design  range was referred to as Do Not Litter and was produced in 1977 ; the influence of Pop Art on this design aesthetic and consciousness is apparent. This item is the smallest of the four designs produced and comes with the original cardboard box which refers to the design as amusing/witty , innovative and surprising and also as iconic " Denkmal ". The vase is modelled to resemble a used, scrunched paper bag with a serrated edge at the top and naturalistically modelled creases. The exterior is glazed in a matt light brown colour with a pinkish tone and areas of darker brown and tan. The interior is a contrasting pale celadon green. The base of the vase has the Rosenthal Studio Line imprint.This range of vases was also produced in a pure white porcelain .
