Vintage 'Royal Delft - De Porceleyne Fles' Tile/Plaque
This early, colourful, hand painted pottery Delft tile or plaque from the 1950's is in excellent condition. It features a lady in traditional dress, carrying a basket near a harbour with boats in the background, and the name 'SCHEVENINGEN' below. I believe the artist and designer of this was 'Henk Tieman' (Hendricus Juhannes Tieman), a renowned Dutch sculptor, ceramicist, artist and glass painter who was employed by 'De Porceleyne Fles' (Royal Delft Potteries). 'Scheveningen' is a part of the Hague and the most popular seaside town in Holland. There's an impressed Royal Delft 'bottle logo' and the word 'Delft' below it, on the back. It measures 15,3cm x 10,3cm x 1cm and weighs 250g.
