Title: Vintage Royal Doulton Bone China "Goody Two Shoes" HN 2037 Figurine. Manufacturer: Royal Doulton, Bone China, Made In England. Height: 13.5cm Width: 8.5cm. Depth: 6cm. Info: An Exquisite piece from Royal Doulton produced circa late 1970's with the marking HN 2037 GT on the base. The Royal Doulton figurine Goody Two Shoes wearing a red dress was designed by Leslie Harradine in the late 1940's and was produced by Royal Doulton between 1949 and 1989. The figure shows a young lady dressed in red and pink, who is lifting her petticoats to reveal a pair of red buckled shoes. It has become one of the factory's most enduring figurines and as a result one of the factory's most recognisable and sought after pieces. Royal Doulton is an English ceramic and home accessories manufacturer founded in 1815. Operating originally in Vauxhall, London, later moving to Lambeth, in 1882 it opened a factory in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, in the centre of English pottery. From 1853 to 1902 its wares were marked Doulton & Co., then from 1902, when a royal warrant was given, Royal Doulton. It always made some more decorative wares, and from the 1860s the firm made considerable efforts to get a reputation for design, as one of the first British makers of art pottery. Initially this was done through artistic stonewares made in Lambeth, but in 1882 the firm bought a Burslem factory, which was mainly intended for making bone china tablewares and decorative items. It was a latecomer in this market compared to firms such as Royal Crown Derby, Royal Worcester, Wedgwood, Spode and Mintons, but made a place for itself in the later 19th century. Three of its brands were Royal Doulton, Royal Albert, and (after a post-WWII merger) Mintons. These brands are now owned by WWRD Holdings Limited (Waterford Crystal, Wedgwood, Royal Doulton), based in Barlaston near Stoke-on-Trent. On 2 July 2015, the acquisition of WWRD by the Finnish company Fiskars Corporation was completed. The HN numbering sequence is named after Harry Nixon (1886-1955), head of the Royal Doulton painting department who joined Doulton in 1900. Condition: Excellent, there are no faults on the figurine at all. Price: R 795.00 Inc Vat.
