Vintage Russian Paper Mache Decoupaged Lacquer Box Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow
Famous for its hand painted lacquer boxes, Russia exports various qualities of models. This one is not hand painted, but rather decoupage applique of a print to a box, then highly lacquers and outlined in a scroll of gilt paint applied by hand. The base stands on little raised feet. Were it hand painted it would be many times more costly, but at first glance, or from any distance, the difference is indistinguishable.
Elaborate architecture is displayed on this Russian black lacquer box with a vibrant red interior. It features the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. The artwork has been signed but we could not identify the artist.
Dating from around the 1960s this box is in a very good condition with some wear to the gilt scroll. It measures approximately 16 cm X 11 cm X 3.5 cm. A stunning box to add to your collection.
