VINTAGE SEIKO DX 6106 -7047 HACKING AUTOMATIC

 Here we have a Seiko DX 17 jewels 6106 - 7047 from the very early 1970's, the DX range is becoming more scarce by the day. Like most Selko watches from that era men who bought them lived with them on there wrist as there trusted, hard working time teller. This one is no different and does have its wear and tear to show for all its hard work. It was given a new lease on life a few years ago when it was serviced and a new crystal fitted. Its gold plated case that has wear and tear measures 40mm including crown, has a day date window and its hacking ability.

For those who do not know an automatic or mechanical watch that you can stop the second hand when you pull out the stem is called hacking. With quartz watches they do that as a matter of normality, that was not the case years ago. One needed this system if you wanted to synchronize your watch to another clock, watch, radio etc also with other people.

This watch has a very nice dial with raised indices and a water mark by the 4 which looks worse than it is due to the macro setting, movement is clean and has no moisture damage.This watch runs nicely and might need regulating to be as precise as it can be.

To adjust the date you just push on the crown gently to advance the date. When you push harder you advance the day and date together.

You can not hand wind these watches and that is why they need to be worn so they can build up a good power reserve. You can hold it in your hand and swing it gently from right to left or left to right a few times to get the power going if it has been sitting dormant.

I am sure the Seiko fans no all this but they might have forgotten as this watch closes in on its 50th birthday.
