Description: Vintage Silver Swan Sugar Bowl & Jam Pot Set.
Gorgeous 1970s silver-plated swan condiment dish, featuring an elegant, sculptural bird frame that securely cradles a perfectly fitted, clear glass insert bowl.
It is incredibly versatile and perfect for serving sugar, honey, jam, or sweet preserves. The swans elongated curved neck functions beautifully as a convenient carrying handle.
This set comes as a functional 4-piece arrangement in lovely vintage condition! The glass insert is completely free of any chips or cracks. The silver plating shows a stunning, authentic aged patina (this can be polished up to a mirror-shine if you prefer, but it looks wonderfully retro and rustic as is!). Includes a beautifully matched, high-shine silver-tone serving spoon that complements the vintage swan perfectly.
Unmarked / Unbranded. These novelty imports were widely brought into South Africa by wholesale distributors or boutique gift stores. The design is identical to pieces distributed by mid-century brands like Davco Silver Ltd (famous for their "Swan Jam Set" line) and Oneida.
Purpose: An elegant table or high tea service container designed specifically to hold jams, preserves, honey, sugar cubes, sugar crystals, or grated condiments.
Historical Context: Decorative, animal-shaped hollowware exploded in popularity during the postwar era as home entertaining became less rigid and more playful. The swan design was a massive retail hit because the long neck functions beautifully as a natural, sturdy handle for passing it around the breakfast table.
Made in Japan, Italy, or West Germany during the boom period for chrome and silver-plated novelty table imports, 1970's-1980's.
