Vintage South African 'Afrikaner' Brass Door Handle
This unusual brass door handle is a fabulous way for a proud South African to display pride in his Afrikaner heritage. It is certainly befitting of a rustic Karoo Homestead.
It has an iconic South African insignia of two Springboks encircling a wheel, horns meeting in the center. A tribute to the 'Ossewa' of the Voortrekkers of old.
It is beautifully crafted with wonderfully fine detail.
It's precise age or origins are unknown to us , but it is of some age and quite possibly once hung on the door of a military building.
It could possibly even have been made by an Italian Prisoner of War at the Camp in Zonderwater in Pretoria in the 1940s....
A collector would certainly recognise it.
It bears the stamp "Ricotti Regd." at the back of the handle and above the wheel.
It is in excellent condition. The handle fits into the two slots on either side of the wheel and the movement is unencumbered.
It does however not come with the original screws. It should be no problem acquiring modern ones to fit.
Height: 120mm ( with handle down)
