Vintage South African Railways signal/ shunting lamp. This lamp is grey with a black base, and is made of hard plastic. The lamp is marked SAS / SAR on the sides, and has "S.A.F.T (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd, Safe for gas classes 2A 2B 2C, 549 - 1956 Approval No P35, SAFT Lamp 306 A, made in South Africa" on the bottom. I thus surmise that the lamp was manufactured in 1956. The lamp has a on / off switch and a colour reflector switch on the top. It reflects red, white and green. The lamp works as can be seen from the photos, but was tested with a PM9 battery which is not the original battery. In all, the lamp is in good condition for its age, although 1 battery clip is missing. Great buy for the true railway memorabilia collector!!!
