DESIGN AND MECHANISM The beater operates via a large ROTATING COG WHEEL (7cm diameter) that drives two interlocking stainless steel whisks. The sturdy metal frame (or "sling") provides the necessary leverage to keep the beaters stable while you turn the 9cm handle. This mechanical design allows for high-speed rotation with minimal effort, making it a favourite for bakers who prefer "low-tech" precision.
PROVENANCE While many of these were imported from the USA or UK (often by brands like Skyline, Prestige, or A&J), they were ubiquitous in South African households from the 1940s through to the 1970s. Their all-metal construction makes them virtually indestructible compared to modern plastic versions.
