The Stanley No. 6 Fore Plane sometimes gets unfavourable reviews, for example Patrick Leach who writes the Blood & Gore Stanley plane review is of the opinion that it is a fairly useless plane.
However, there are many that hold the opposite view and maybe champion among them is Christopher Schwarz (well known craftsman and author). He has found them to be very useful and very versatile, having used them as fore planes and jointer planes to great success. He says he even has one set-up with a scraper blade which he uses primarily on glued-up table tops, especially where the tabletop has been glued-up out of narrow boards. See Christopher Schwarz's article Understanding Bench Planes that he wrote for Popular Woodworking (14 Feb 2019).
This plane was made in England and has a cutter that was made in the USA. It is in very good condition and has undergone a basic clean-up.
Please see photos for indication of condition.
Note to overseas buyers: Price excludes overseas postage. I am prepared to quote for postage costs, and insurance if required, which will be at cost.
LOCAL SHIPPING: Most convenient to me is PostNet to PostNet. If you want alternative shipping the cost will depend on a quoted price. If buying more than 1 item, the combined parcel size and weight could impact shipping cost. If this results in a cost that exceeds the R100 indicated for small to medium packages then the cost will be adjusted to the actual shipping charge. Also, where a small to medium packages weight pushes the actual cost beyond R100, the rate will be adjusted accordingly.
