A vintage stoneware bed and/or foot warmer made in Scotland by Possil Pottery in Glasgow for the Liverpool pharmaceutical company Ayrton, Saunders & Co. Ltd. The impressed number 2 on the shoulder probably indicates the water capacity of the item.The prominent IXL is the trade mark of Ayrton, Saunders.

Condition good except for some very small chips on the thread of the screw-in lid (see photo). Size (lying flat): width 257 mm; depth 100 mm; height 125 mm. The weight is about 1.5 kg.
